I set off in my final day of walking with a few others and with beautiful weather.

I had to go into this cemetery to check and they were all real flowers.

Not far along the road there were some buskers. I stopped to say hello.

I broke the ice by showing them a photo me playing the bagpipes and then we had a good chat. What’s that ? Well OK, here it is.

That’s me with the glasses in 1968.

A chapel dedicated to St Mary Magdalene had a stamp so I went in. Here she is.

A very early medieval wayside cross.
More rock hopping today.

Passing through numerous little villages, there were lots of horréos or grain stores. It’s illegal to pull them down as they are considered an important part of the region’s heritage.

Another church, stamp, and a statue of the devil in a tricky position.

I stopped in a town park to have my picnic lunch and Lola came to sit next to me for a chat.

At first I didn’t understand a word she said, as she was speaking in Galego, the local langauge which is very similar to Portuguese . Then she asked if I spoke Castilian and then we had a bit of a chat, although I did have some problems understanding her accent.

Lola told me I was muy agradable, ‘very nice’.

Footprints in the concrete.

Galicia has problems with invasive mosquitoes and they are being tracked via traps like this one.

In the afternoon I passed a little stall where someone was offering fruit for a donation. I did feel like another mandarin, and as soon as my coin made a clink in the tin, a woman came out with some home made cake for me!

She told me that she was very happy to chat with me, as most pilgrims coming past can’t speak Spanish.

Soon in was in the suburbs of Santiago and before I knew it, I’d entered the old town and had arrived at the cathedral.

After a shower, I made a trip to that most restorative of places, the laundromat.

It was a very pleasant day, and I spent much more time speaking with local people along the way than with other pilgrims. Here’s my credencial.

And here’s my final Relive video for this walk.
