Dinner was a very tasty pork cheek with chestnuts dish. It didn’t cost that much more than the basic dinner I had the night before . The cafe owner at Vairão is charging pilgrims probably double what is normal as he has a monopoly.

I didn’t sleep well. A loud band played until midnight up at the fair that I mentioned yesterday and then the fireworks started. Someone in my room was snoring. And then there was the time cannon in the morning.

Undaunted, I set off out into the rain.

The rooster symbol of the city comes from a legend about a pilgrim sentenced to death for theft.

He protested his innocence and told the judge that the rooster on his plate for dinner that night would crow to prove it. It did!

Heading out of town even I couldn’t get lost in this pilgrim yellow brick road.

I had 33km to cover and it rained continuously. Despite the poncho, I got quite wet as it was also windy and I sweat a lot with a raincoat on.

The countryside is very pretty.

Another medieval bridge and a fisherman unworried by the rain.

There are hydrangea bushes everywhere, but they’ve only just started to flower. It would be spectacular in summer.

They’re aren’t too many places to stop along the way, and an enterprising woman has set up a little stall selling drinks and home made biscuits.

Joyce was there when passed and Angelo, who I met a few weeks ago, came past soon after.

Whilst there are vineyards, there are also many vines growing on trellises around the edge of fields. I wonder if they are table grapes?

After some 7 hours walking in the rain, I arrived at the Lima River.

Not long after the bridge which the town is named after came into sight. This 13 arch bridge was originally Roman but was partly replaced by a new structure in the 14th century.

I’ve had enough of snoring room mates for a while, and tonight I have the luxury of a private room.

Because of a slippery wet phone screen, I ended up prematurely ending one Relive video, so there are two today .
