I woke through the night to the sound of rain as had been predicted, but by the time I woke up it wasn’t raining, but very unsettled.

Not long after I started walking it began to rain, so I got to try on my new poncho. I got completely tangled up trying to get it over the back pack .

Luckily, John from England, who I’d met yesterday, came along and helped me untangle myself.

John has stickers with his instagram details that he places along the way.

A lot of today’s walk was urban, as towns and villages were strung out along the way .

I’d left after having a very simple breakfast of a piece of smelly old cheese from last week and an apple. I was a bit hungry, and so after 8 kilometres I made a small detour into a town centre where I found a bustling pasteleria.

There were many abandoned houses in some of the smaller villages.

The rain stopped and it became quite cool and windy. By this time John and I met up with Rita from Italy who I met yesterday. We were all feeling a bit cold and hungry so we went into a busy restaurant.

The waiter had a trick of sliding across the floor to serve the meals. The Relive video at the the end of the post shows him in action.
All this with wine, a jelly desert and coffee for €9 or about $AUD 15

I don’t think I’ve seen olive flowers before.

The Portuguese love their gardens and use whatever space they have.

In the mid afternoon we arrived wind swept in the pretty little town of Águeda.
