Today was to be another long day and in my usual fashion, I made it longer by missing a turn and heading off in the wrong direction for a few kilometres . I ended up walking 32km and climbing 600m in around 8 hours – 50,000 steps!

The first village I passed through had a thing going about pieces of wood that look like animals.

Today I started seeing lots of roadside chapels. Here’s a selection.

There was once again a combination of bitumen roads, dirt roads, bush tracks and ancient pathways.

I’ve walked along quite a few stone paths with walls side on each in Italy and Spain where they are the ancient through paths for moving sheep and other animals between pastures .

Maybe these in Portugal served the same purpose.

Here’s a sample of the other paths I followed today.

What goes down has got to come up.

I managed to find a few fountains to top up my water.

This one didn’t work.

Once again there were so many flowers. Portugal is a garden.

I came across only one couple from Italy walking today, but mid afternoon I passed an Albergue with a dozen pilgrims milling around and there are about 20 in my hostel tonight. One group had their backpacks delivered by a delivery company.

While I was having dinner this family group came past on their evening walk.

Tomorrow I arrive in the city of Coimbra.

Here’s my video of the day’s walk.
